What is Reiki?

Reiki

Reiki (RayKee) is a beautiful therapy which helps harmonize personal and Universal Energy. This ancient healing method was rediscovered in Japan in the mid 19th century by scholar Dr. Mikao Usui and has spread exponentially.
Reiki is now practiced worldwide. This energy healing technique awakens your life force energy, dissolves blockages caused by today’s stressful lifestyle, or past illnesses or trauma’s and enhances health and general well being. A reiki practitioner’s aim is to draw energy from the Universal Life Force that is all around us and then let it flow through their hands and into the person who need the healing. By laying their hands on or hovering above various parts of the body in turn, they transmit energy to help restore its natural flow around the recipient’s body. This also releases any blockages that may prevent the recipients from reaching their full potential. The effect of Reiki is not always immediate or obvious, although for some people it can be dramatic and instant. Reiki has its own inherent wisdom and acts as a force that gives people what they need, rather than what they ask for.

Reiki therapy

Reiki is not a religion and can therefore be enjoyed by all people regardless of religion. Reiki is all about encouraging people to have trust in themselves and in the universe. Although Reiki is a hands-on form of healing, no manipulation of the body is involved. There is no risk of injury, aches or pains occurring after a Reiki treatment. Reiki is suitable for the ill and disabled and can be used in conjunction with other complementary therapies and healing practices, and with allopathic mainstream medical treatments.
Reiki is more than a complementary therapy. It can also be regarded as a spiritual journey or a life path. Many people say that the healing and balancing of the body’s natural flow of energy creates a sense of openness. This offers the opportunity to expand one’s consciousness, as well as to release long-held stresses and pains. Life Force flows through all living things; plants, animals, and people. Reiki healing is simply a means of accessing this energy in a direct and amplified way.

Reiki is never a replacement for your regular medical care from your physician.

What to expect during a Reiki session?

During your Reiki session your practitioner’s hands will hover over different areas of your body. They also might lightly touch or hold on to different neutral parts of your body, such as head, arms, shoulders, lower legs or feet. They will remain in these spots for several minutes.
During the session you may possibly feel different sensations, the most common feelings are an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation. However other sensations such as feeling cold/warm, tingling or buzzing are also possible. Some people see colours or pictures or possibly revisit old memories. You may also feel no sensations at all. All these responses are completely normal. Sensations felt or not felt do not indicate the level of help reiki is offering, this is a simple matter of different levels of awareness.
After your treatment it is recommended that you sit for a short period of time to refocus and drink water to stay hydrated.
